“Diets with a high glycemic load appear to increase the risk of breast cancer even in women who are not overweight.”
I recommend a diet of real food: lean protein from healthy animals, copious amounts of fresh organic veggies, very little fruit, and lots of healthy fats.
I am distressed at how frequently a high carb low fat vegetarian or vegan diet is still recommended to women with cancer. By default, that means a high carb diet, and that is not helpful or healthful. Insulin resistance and inflammation are always components of this disease, and a high carb diet makes it worse.
While this is the nutritional approach I recommend for any chronic illness, I want women to know that there is SO much they can do: to minimize the risk of breast cancer, and to come through it with resilience if they must undergo treatment.
