I just love it when books are published that pull together so much of what I’ve been saying for over a decade, but with the MD and the research to back up my clinical experience, intuition and nerdy reading. This easy to understand book is by neurologist David Permutter. It is well written, clear and easy to read, and it will blow your mind. It will also teach you how to keep your brain healthy for the rest of your life.
Grain Brain: The Surprising Truth about Wheat, Carbs, and Sugar–Your Brain’s Silent Killers
I first made these connections with my dad, who went from depression to diabetes to early onset Alzheimer’s, and died in a nursing home a few years ago. He wouldn’t ever listen to me when I tried to help him, and I had to accept that. But it deepened my commitment and motivation to help others who want to reclaim and retain their health. This is a really important book to help you do that.
The last time I got this excited about a publication in my field was Mark Hyman’s book Ultra Mind Solution: The Simple Way to Defeat Depression, Overcome Anxiety, and Sharpen Your Mind. It’s still worth a read, too.
Of course, many people have also come to their own revelations about gluten through the work of cardiologist William Davis, in this book. Personally, I prefer Grain Brain, but each has value, and Wheat Belly has many recipes that people love.
That’s what I keep telling everyone I tell about you — As long as I’ve known you, you’ve always been ahead of the game 🙂

Thanks so much, Genevieve! I consider it my responsibility to be ahead of the curve! Although sometimes I feel like Cassandra in her corner, the mainstream press always catches up eventually 😉
