Is Gluten-Free a Fad or a Growing Trend?

Gluten FreeHi, Fran Sussman here, from Sussman Holistic Services, the Holistic Outlook column in The Times Herald Record, and at Hudson Valley http://bit.ly/SSYourBestHealthBlogA Here are some thoughts for Your Best Health.

A fad is “an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, especially one that is short-lived”. I believe that the increased interest in avoiding gluten is a growing trend. There are very good reasons that gluten-free has become a rapidly growing change.

For those of you, for whom this subject is still a mystery, let me explain.  Gluten is the protein found in wheat, oats, spelt, rye and barley.  When people react to foods, it’s the protein in those foods they are reacting to.

Just a few decades ago, gluten made up only about 3-4% of the grain but wheat has been purposely modified, so today gluten is often over 40% of the grain. This makes it fluffier and more “shelf stable”… as well as more toxic, to most of us.

I find when I help clients eliminate gluten from their diets; this often eliminates many symptoms they have been suffering from for years: from gut and bowel issues to arthritis, eczema and many more.

In my next blog, I’ll be throwing down the gauntlet and presenting to all my readers a “Challenge”.  Are you up for it?  Please, visit my September 25th blog. I promise you, it could change your life for the better!!!

In the meantime, here’s wishing you a happy, healthy day.

Much love,

Fran
